Football Birthday Parties for Kids

A football fan is wanting to use that theme for his birthday party. So what does a parent do? I got the desperate call from my sister. Her son wants to have a football party for his 10th birthday this year. Can I help her plan this?

The answer was, of course, yes! Young kids of this age are active and energetic. Football activities make great party games to use up some of that energy. No, this doesn't mean you have to find a football game to take all the kids to. It just means that you need to work with the decorations, party supplies, menu items and games in a football theme.

The birthday cake for my young nephew was a full sheet cake decorated to look like the field. Green icing spread over the whole thing, with white icing as the yard markers. The menu included a cheese ball made into a football shape. Chips and snacks were served in football-shaped bowls. And a serving tray that looked just like a referee's jersey held all the beverages. That part was simple.

We choose party invitations that were fully football designed. We even made use of the elements in the invitations for decorating ideas. Miniature football players were set around the buffet table. And my nephew's favorite team jerseys were hung as a backdrop to the party table.

Even the party favors were all about football. The bags had football stickers on them, included football shaped chocolate candy, and Nerf-style mini balls were added. Twice during the party, all the kids were sent outside to play a game of tag-football.

The party was hit with all the guests. Best of all, it was a hit with my nephew. His final words to his mother as she tucked him into bed that night were, "This was the best party ever!" You can't wish for more.
